Paul Grandhomme bronze French Ministry of War medal

This super small bronze medal is by P Grandhomme. The obverse depicts a standing soldier with a classically dressed women (presumably a depiction of Marianne) pointing to charging armed soldiers in the background. The words " Si Vis Para Vellum" are stamped around the edge and "Pro Patria" at the foot. It is signed "P Grandhomme". The reverse depicts a lion sitting on a plinth beneath a stone monolith on which is stamped the words "Prix du Ministre de la Guerre" There are rifles stirrups a target and a bicycle on the left side of the monolith and swords gloves and a bugle on the right with a bi-plane above. Around the edge are the words "Entrainement Physique Preparation Militaire" and it is stamped "Grandhomme". The rim is stamped "Bronze".

Paul Victor Grandhomme
(1851 – 1944)
French painter enameller goldsmith engraver & medalist
He wored under Auguste Mollard and was influenced by his friend the painter Raephael Collin. He worked with Pierre Puvis de Chavannes & Jules-Ellie Delaunay.
In 1874 he exhibited an enamelled portrait of Vittoria Colonna at the Salon of French Artists.
In 1877, he became the pupil of Alfred Jean Garnier with whom he collaborated on works & in 1890 & 1895 they exhibited works at the Salon
